The trailer for Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Not only gives a glimpse of She-Hulk’s MCU origin and story but also reveals some of the primary returning and new MCU characters that are set to appear in the Disney + series. Other than boasting an impressive array of characters and potential story arcs, the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer is jam-packed with Easter eggs and references to the grand scheme of things in the MCU. While, for now, only speculations can be drawn around most of these fan-targeted morsels, the characters confirmed in the trailer draw a clear picture of all the unsolved MCU plotlines She-Hulk: Attorney at Law intends to resolve and the new storylines it plans to create.
For the most part, the trailer suggests that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will be a far cry from the MCU’s Phase 4’s relatively bleak tone and will rely heavily on humor instead of gravely serious melodrama. It gives a quick look at Jennifer Walters’s day-to-day snags as a corporate lawyer and her struggles as the green-tinged She-Hulk version of herself. Interestingly, unlike Bruce Banner, Walters seems to strike the right balance between her personal and Gamma-powered superhero life. With incredible strength and savage wit, she also manages to carry her giant, green self in public with ease.
Bruce Banner / Smart Hulk also briefly appears in the She-Hulk trailer, confirming that like the rest of his previous appearances in the MCU, he will again be a secondary protagonist, as he plays a key role in helping Jennifer Walters control her alter-ego. The She-Hulk The trailer also features a few blink-or-miss-em cameos from Jameela Jamil as Titania, plus Frog-Man, and even Abomination. But even with so many revelations, the She-Hulk trailer keeps most of its overarching plot points – and most likely, even many of its characters – under the covers.
Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk
Played by Tatiana Maslany, Jennifer Walters is a lawyer who, as the She-Hulk trailer suggests, is “the face of the superhuman law divisionMuch to her dismay, she lives a complicated life where she must juggle her corporate job with her newfound shenanigans as the green giant superhero She-Hulk. In the trailer, Bruce Banner refers to her as his cousin, which affirms that She-Hulk will stick to the title character’s comic book origins. Her herculean strength and frame in the comics come from an emergency blood transfusion from Bruce, which sends the Gamma-irradiated blood flowing through her veins.
However, unlike Bruce, the MCU’s She-Hulk seems to have retained all aspects of her personality and may not even turn into a colossal raging monster like the Hulk. In a conversation with her best friend in the trailer, Jennifer Walters talks about how she despises heroes and claims she will never go down the superhero route. But considering her training arc with Smart Hulk, it is perhaps only a matter of time before she starts fighting crime outside the courtroom.
Bruce Banner / Smart Hulk
Smart Hulk’s appearance in She-Hulk evokes many questions surrounding the MCU’s current timeline. Moreover, it is not hard to wonder if Bruce Banner has already sustained the arm injury from the Iron Man Gauntlet. In the She-Hulk trailer, Mark Ruffalo’s Smart Hulk is more or less of a guiding force for his cousin and helps her gain more control over her newfound abilities. He might have a more significant role in the overarching plot of the 10-episode series, but considering his disenchanting past in the MCU, it is hard to predict what is in store for him.
Titania, a key villain in She-Hulk, makes a fleeting appearance in the trailer. According to the comics, she was once a small-framed girl named Mary MacPherran who was often bullied by her schoolmates. However, a chance encounter with Fantastic Four nemesis Doctor Doom gave her the opportunity to become superpowered in exchange for agreeing to join his villain army. Using the alien technology from Battleworld, he transformed her into Titania. Her live-action version in She-Hulk is played by Jameela Jamil, of The Good Place fame, and Titania’s long history in Marvel comics suggests that there will be a lot more to her evil characterization than meets the eye.
Tim Roth is reprising his role as Abomination, who first appeared as the Hulk’s nemesis at the start of the MCU, in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. More than a decade later, the franchise surprisingly brought him back, showing Abomination fighting Wong for sport in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. What makes his appearance here so intriguing is that other than Jennifer Walters, he is the only one who has Bruce Banner’s blood coursing through his body. This could mean that he is now joining forces with Bruce and Jennifer to help them get a better understanding of their transformations. The fact that Abomination was Wong’s cage match partner in Shang-Chi suggests he is now on the right path.
After a whole lot of speculation, Benedict Wong’s return in She-Hulk, as Sorcerer Supreme Wong, has been confirmed. Although nothing about his role in the show has been revealed yet, it is possible that it will have something to do with Tim Roth’s Abomination. This could further explain how the two ended up sparring together in Shang-Chi and bring some closure to that unresolved plotline.
A superhero like Frog-Man is much needed in a universe well-versed with super soldiers and billionaire playboys turned heroes. Unlike most Marvel vigilantes, Frog-Man is just a regular human, bereft of the incredible abilities that make superheroes so great. This lack makes Frog-Man a ridiculously hilarious character whose sole purpose is to add some comic relief to She-Hulk‘s storyline. The miserable wannabe of a hero may not play a significant role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s overarching plot, but he does promise some laughs.
